Can you believe it’s January and the holidays have already come and gone?! I’m in total disbelief that it’s winter time here in Dallas. While there isn’t snow on the ground, it’s no longer t-shirt weather around here. With it being so cold outside, my skin has definitely seen better days. This time of year is always especially hard on my skin, with the temperatures dipping to well below freezing. After suffering with rather dry skin and hair for the last few months, I decided it was time to make a change in my every day body care routine. Today I’m sharing with all an in depth look at my routine, as well as what I’m using to achieve and maintain healthy, soft skin + hair through the cold winter months.
Just recently, I was shopping on Amazon when I stumbled across a new brand, Nature Box™. I knew I had to try their products simply due to the fact they had a wide range of products for different needs and skin types. My skin is rather sensitive, so I knew I had to be extra careful when selecting body butters, oils, and scrubs. What drew me in about Nature Box™ was the fact that combines effective beauty care with cold pressed oils and certain sustainably-sourced ingredients. Nature Box™ is a new brand that combines effective beauty care with cold pressed oils and certain sustainably-sourced ingredients. With five product lines featuring cold pressed oils, Nature Box™ hair and body care products are vegan, and many are created without the trending consumer ingredient topics of interest such as sulfates, silicones, parabens, and artificial colorants. In addition, Nature Box™ ingredients are packaged and labeled to encourage consumer recycling. Doesn’t this sound like an amazing product? Thankfully Nature Box™ can be conveniently ordered straight from Amazon (or found at your local Rite Aid). When shopping on Amazon for Nature Box™ Beauty, you can find their amazing selection of body and haircare here.
You have probably heard this tip a handful of times in your lives, but it’s a must to mention here in this post. Keeping your skin hydrated starts from the inside out. While it can be a challenge to drink ice cold water, especially during the winter months, your body needs it to function. Try carrying around a water bottle with you, wherever you go, no matter what. Choose to be intentional about what you’re putting into your body each day, and it will thank you.
While it’s second nature to want to take a long, hot bath or shower especially in the winter months, it’s a no-go for your skin. Spending too long in a scalding hot shower will strip the oils from your skin, that are essential to keeping your skin moisturized and healthy. You can still take a warm shower, but make sure you’re turning the water to tepid, to ensure you’re not causing your skin any harm. Try to cut down your shower time to 5-10 minutes to ensure you’re not drying out your skin in the cold, winter months. And if you are still craving that warmth a hot shower can bring, curl up with a warm mug of tea and heating pad to get your fix.
Firstly I want to talk about my routine in the shower, it may seem a bit lengthy, but it typically lasts 5-10 minutes depending on what products I’m using, or if I need to shave that day. My shower routine is as follows:
This time of year especially, it’s so important to utilize a good shampoo/conditioner duo to ensure your hair stays hydrated. Since I tend to lighten my hair throughout the year, I find if I left my conditioner penetrate for three minutes or more, my hair is that much more manageable when styling. In the cold winter months, it’s so easy for your hair to lose the ability to hold moisture, that’s why I always opt to use coconut oil in my haircare. I love using Nature box Coconut Oil because it instantly hydrates my hair, from root to tip.
My top choice for haircare during these cold winter months is Nature Box. Nature Box is a new brand that combines effective beauty care with cold pressed oils and certain sustainably-sourced ingredients. I truly love their new line because cold pressed oils have always been a staple in my every day beauty routine, from my skincare right down to haircare. When it’s cold outside, my hair always tends to suffer, but this year, I am so thankful to have found this new haircare system. So far I have used this duo on my hair for a little over a week, and my color treated hair feels so soft and smooth as a result.
Following exiting the shower, I always apply a body lotion as soon as I turn off the water. Doing so while your skin is still slightly damp, helps to seal in additional moisture. While some may be quick to judge a body lotion with cold pressed oil in fear of being “greasy” rest assured when properly applied, it wont leave a greasy, tacky residue on the skin. Oils are preferred when moisturizing because they penetrate deeper into the skin, versus a cream alone. If you combine the two, you’re bound to achieve soft, supple skin that will last all day long. Spending 2-3 minutes massaging a body lotionl into the skin always makes for a more luxurious after shower experience. My preferred body lotion is the Nature Box Avocado Oil Body Lotion. I’ve tried several different body lotions featuring oils, and this is like no other. It quickly absorbs into my skin, within less than five minutes of applying. While I wait for the body lotion to absorb, I typically apply my skin care, start my makeup routine, or brush my teeth.
One thing you can count on being in my purse wherever I go, is a tube of hand cream. I love using hand cream following my body lotion, or even several hours after. Mid day is typically when I reapply my cream, to ensure my hands stays smooth and hydrated all day long. You can always find me applying hand lotion at my desk while I’m working, or even before I head out to my car. I find if I put body lotion on my hands, let it absorb for a few minutes before putting on my mittens, the winter air is no match for my moisturized skin. Nothing works better than my current fave, Nature Box Macadamia Oil Hand Cream. It keeps my hands silky smooth all day long, and smells great too!
