Hello friends, I can’t believe November is already here…where did the time go? Soon enough, all stores will be playing Christmas music, and snow will be on the ground. I’m in total disbelief that it’s that time of year again. Does anyone else feel like this year flew by? This morning as I rolled out of bed to let Odin outside, I threw on a sweater not knowing IF it was cold enough to do so. To my surprise, it was in the upper 50’s, which means perfect sweater weather! Living in Dallas especially in the last few months of the year has been so different from the rest of our lives spent in Maine. It’s not too cold, but it doesn’t really feel “festive” either during the holiday season (which really bums me out). And while I let it really sink in that it’s officially November, I thought what would be more fitting than to goal set so today, I’m sharing with you all a few things I’m hoping for in this month.
To be completely honest here, last month was the roughest month I’ve had all year. I was super focused on my own personal issues, that I pushed everyone and everything in my life to the side. It can be hard to feel a sense of balance when life is chaotic and throws you major curve balls, let alone stay fully present. I spent countless hours checking emails, glued to my phone, and wasting precious time. In doing so, I realized I needed to become fully present in my own life…as strange as it sounds. To live more intentionally, and check in with myself daily. This month, I’m making it a goal to stay present, to check in with myself often and live a more intentional life.
Fall has officially arrived here in Dallas, and I’m so excited to be outdoors again, without sweating to death. It’s sweater weather season and I can’t wait to finally wear half of the stuff in my closet I haven’t been able to touch all year. It sounds so silly, but I’m excited to spend more time walking outside, and getting lost in nature. It’s been interesting to say the least moving from the East Coast to adjusting to life in the South. Fortunately for us, Dallas has a ton of parks we can explore and get our nature fix in. This month I’m looking forward to traveling to Oklahoma to see more fall foliage, and maybe go on a hike or two.
Again, in total disbelief over here that it’s November…which means holiday time! It hasn’t really sunken in yet that Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. I’m already starting to see Christmas decorations in store, and even hear Christmas music…isn’t it a bit early? I know I should be more optimistic, but I’m all for staying true to the present moment. And while I’m not ready (just yet) to fully embrace the fact that the holidays are really, right around the corner…I’m trying my hardest to get in the spirit, I promise! I’m already pinning holiday meal ideas, and fun, inexpensive ways to celebrate around my city. This month, I’m going to try to get festive early, and embrace the season.
While Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, I’m trying my best to get a head start on planning. Sadly my husband will be working on Thanksgiving, so we have yet to decide what we’re going to do this year. I’m already feeling a bit down about the fact I’ll most likely be spending the day alone, due to having our family/friends almost 2,000 miles away. Typically, we love the holidays, but being so far from home, it’s so much harder to get into the holiday spirit. Luckily, this holiday season will be the very last we spend here in Dallas! We’re pumped to move on, and (hopefully) be able to spend future holidays with family and friends. This year, I’m trying my best to conjure up a plan so we can celebrate our last Thanksgiving here in Dallas, without feeling too homesick.
