I can’t believe we’re already in the second month of the year! Time flies when you’re having fun, right? Now that it’s February, it’s perfectly acceptable to start thinking about two things: the Super Bowl and Valentines Day! While I’m so excited for both of these things this year, I can completely understand why Valentines Day can feel like “pressure” to some. It’s a day out of the year where some can feel like they need to pull out all of the stops, and plan something extraordinary for their spouse. And I’m here to tell you….
You don’t have to plan something huge.
You don’t have to make a big, grand gesture.
Your spouse just probably just wants to be reminded, and shown appreciation not only on Valentines Day… but every day.
And while I’m a HUGE lover of these types of holidays, and love to gift give, my husband is the polar opposite. My husband can be a total grinch, he doesn’t really love these “corporate synthesized holidays” as he puts it. Though, each and every year, he still brings me chocolate and a hand written letter because he knows it brings me joy. Because he knows for me, it’s all about the little things, and I love hand written love letters. I’m the type to celebrate every holiday, no matter the occasion. I love Valentines Day, because it’s another time of the year to really celebrate those you love dearly. Sometimes, your spouse can be like mine, and doesn’t really care about these types of holidays. But most importantly, we both believe the same truth: Your spouse needs to be shown love and appreciation each and every day. So today, regardless if you and yours are planning a fun date this V-day, I am sharing a few easy ways to show your spouse they are loved, and appreciated – all month long, not just for Valentines Day!
Thank him – Verbally, and often, for all the things, big and small he does for you
Write him a note, letter, or make a card
Prepare his lunch for work (and leave a note!)
Go out to dinner, to a place you both love
Give him a foot rub after a long day at work
Surprise him with his favorite meal
Clear your schedule and take a day to yourselves
Plan a fun date somewhere new
Express how proud + thankful you are to have him
Stock the pantry full of items he likes
Have a tech-free day, and spend time with just each other
Go on a coffee date & engage in meaningful conversation
Simply ask your spouse how he is genuinely doing
Reminisce together
Tell him you love him
Figure out your spouses Love Language
Greet him at the door with a hug & kiss
Send a random thoughtful text during the day
Leave sticky love notes where he can find them
Take over household chores & Let him relax
Plan something unexpected and fun
Perform random acts of kindness
