I know you’re already thinking I’m crazy…..
Hear a girl out, and give this a read before you throw some shade.
Ever since my older brother told me I smell like complete a$$ in 7th grade, I haven’t gone a day without my trusty antiperspirant. I’ve used countless brands – Dove, Secret, Degree…you name it, I used every bit of it. I never gave it a thought to HOW deodorant truly WORKED. It kept the stink away, since I was an athlete all through my school years, deodorant was always an essential and apart of my morning routine just like the rest of you reading this post. Today I am asking you all to rethink your morning routine, starting with that deodorant of yours.
When I went through Cosmetology, I learned a lot more about the human body than I ever anticipated. Yep – it’s required to take anatomy courses as well as how to roll a perm, crazy right? When I began learning about the human body, chemicals, and breaking down common ingredients, I had an instant fascination with reading nutrition labels, or really just any label in general. I made it a point to understand what I was using, and what it would do – good, and bad. From Cosmetology school onwards, I am still hyperaware on the products I put on my skin, as well as the food I eat. What does all of this have to do with antiperspirant?
When I found out that aluminum containing antiperspirants may be linked to breast cancer, and numerous diseases, I opted to make a huge switch in my daily routine, and begin my “all natural” deodorant journey. It’s been over six months, and I can honestly say there is no “detox period” where you smell completely awful. None of that is true, unless you ditch deodorant in full.
Why You Should Switch To All Natural Deodorant
Antiperspirant = Prevents sweating from occurring, by blocking our sweat glands with harmful ingredients such as aluminum.
Deodorant = Allows sweating, but blocks odor, by killing bacteria.
That, right there…is the very reason you should DITCH antiperspirant. Your body needs to sweat to remove toxins, as well as regulate your temperature (pretty important stuff, right?). Your body is supposed to sweat, it’s as simple as that. Not allowing your body to go through a natural cycle can lead to numerous health problems. It can also lead to sweat build up beneath the skin, which ultimately can lead to irritation.
When it comes down to it, everyone is different. Not everyone thinks twice about the products they put on their skin. Ever since I learned about the toxic, and harmful ingredients found in my trusty beauty products, I became proactive and made some switches. I wanted to share some insight with you all, and offer my favorite products found this far.
Have you switched to any all natural beauty products lately? How do you feel about antiperspirants?
